Fighting Fire With Fire Repellant

INSOMNIA

Restlessness that plagues the night.

INSOMNIA is a force to be feared. Powerful mind games throughout the night. Nothing can protect you from an attack…

Turn out the bedroom lights

Lay your head down

Shut your eyes

Ah, rest

THOUGHT

Sleep evades you. One lone thought gives birth to an endless night. The problem with insomnia is not the fact that you can’t sleep, no. The problems lies much deeper. The REAL problem with insomnia is the simple fact that nothing of worth can actually get done. “I can’t sleep. Oh well, I can study for an exam!” WRONG you can’t get anything done. The only  possible activity to participate in during an attack is one of three things (none of which remotely interest a normal human).

  1. Watching Poker After Dark Cheaters
  2. Watching your Facebook page for wall posts
  3. Watching that EXTRA DARK corner of your room where you might have seen something move

These are all classic symptoms of insomnia. Millions of people all over the world succumb to terrible Cheaters marathons. Get off FACEBOOK! It is 4am…no one is going to write on your wall! How doest one overcome this sickness and harness the endless night for the sake of progress?

Simple. Try to do something you don’t want to do. Let us suppose you have a research paper or work report due the following morning. I would try to get that report done, and in turn begin to procrastinate. Procrastination and Insomnia are natural enemies. Because you don’t want to do the report, you begin to take on other tasks. Next thing you know: the kitchen is clean, your vinyl collection has been reorganized,  you finally changed the calender over to the next month, you actually folded your socks, and you found that missing jar of maraschino cherries.

All of this is thanks to our insomnia counter-strike: procrastination.
