Friends Are Friends Forever…

October 26, 2009

…if the Lord’s the Lor-Nevermind.

How does friendship WORK. Let me explain with this fable my young grasshoppers…

A man decides he needs something. He feels empty. He NEEDS to fill this void. The man grabs his fishing pole, and heads to the Lake. This lake is teeming with fish. BIG fish, little fish, brown fish, green fish, happy fish, sad fish, fish of all kinds. The man CAST his pole into the lake. A fish bites. struggle. The man has the fish on the hook, but he is not satisfied. He longs to fill the void. He casts another pole into the lake…another fish/another pole/another fish/another pole. Before long, the man has hooked many fish. All of the fish need his attention, but he can only give to a few at a time. Some fish lose interest with the man. They SLIP away. Slowly, the man has no more fish than when he started.

Friends are like fish.

You have all these friends on different poles. Every once in a while you switch poles to make sure that friend is still there. This is not an easy task. Especially if you are a member of the social elite. The Popular Kids. This group of people have it worse than anyone. Everyone wants to be THEIR friends: they want a piece of that popular pie. Balancing Act. Keep your friends interested. Tug on the pole to make sure they are there. Everyone knows it is easy to keep one fish on the line. How much greater is it to hold on to many?

Keeping people in a relationship is hard work. Make sure to reward your hard work with a day off every now and then. Be sure to consider yourself a member of the ELITE for having so many friends…
